Multiple task allocations allow you to block time for the same task more than once. This makes it easier to plan work that spans several sessions and gives you a more accurate view of how time is distributed across your tasks.
β What multiple allocations are
In Routine, allocating time means dragging a task into the calendar to block time for it. With multiple allocations, you can:
Block time for the same task across multiple time slots
Split work into smaller focused sessions
See all planned and completed time blocks for a task
Each allocation represents time reserved for that task, not a regular calendar event.
βοΈ How to create multiple allocations
From the task list
Drag a task into the calendar to create an allocation
Hold the Option (Alt) key while dragging the same task again
A small plus indicator appears
Drop the task to create an additional allocation
From the calendar
You can duplicate an existing allocation by holding Option (Alt) and dragging it to a new time slot
The same visual plus indicator confirms a new allocation will be created
π How allocations appear in the calendar
Allocations are displayed differently from regular events
A checkbox indicator shows that the item is a task allocation
Clicking an allocation shows the related task
Double-clicking opens the task directly
Allocations can be resized and moved like events.
β Viewing allocations from a task
When you open a task:
You will see a list of all its allocations
Past and future allocations are grouped separately
This gives a complete view of how time has been planned and spent on the task
π Why multiple allocations matter
Multiple allocations enable:
More realistic planning for complex tasks
Better time tracking across work sessions
Greater flexibility in daily and weekly planning
They are especially powerful for deep work, recurring tasks, and long-term projects.
