The GitLab integration lets you sync GitLab issues directly into Routine as tasks. Whether you're tracking issues assigned to you or syncing an entire project's issue list, GitLab work surfaces in Routine alongside your personal tasks, team tasks, and calendar — giving you one place to manage everything.

✍️ What the GitLab integration does

With the GitLab integration, you can:

  • Sync GitLab issues assigned to you as Routine tasks

  • Sync all issues in a specific GitLab project

  • Keep due dates in sync bidirectionally — changes in GitLab reflect in Routine and vice versa

  • Keep open/closed state in sync — closing an issue in GitLab marks it done in Routine, and completing it in Routine closes it in GitLab

  • Manage GitLab issues from Routine without switching to GitLab for status updates

  • Access synced issues on both desktop and mobile

🎙️ How to set up the GitLab integration

  1. Open Routine Settings

  2. Navigate to Integrations

  3. Find GitLab in the integrations list

  4. Click to connect and authenticate with your GitLab account

  5. Choose what to sync:

    • Issues assigned to you — only issues where you are the assignee

    • All issues in a project — every issue in a specific GitLab project you select

  6. Customize the sync settings:

    • Map GitLab issue status to Routine task status

    • Map due dates

    • Configure any additional property mappings

  7. Save — GitLab issues begin syncing immediately

Synced issues appear in your Routine inbox and task lists like any other task. They can be scheduled, time-blocked, labeled, and planned.

🔄 How bidirectional sync works

Once connected, changes flow in both directions:

  • GitLab → Routine — new issues, status changes, due date updates, and closures sync into Routine automatically

  • Routine → GitLab — completing a task in Routine closes the issue in GitLab; updating a due date in Routine updates it in GitLab

This means you can stay entirely in Routine for day-to-day work without losing sync with your GitLab project.

💡 Tips

  • Use Issues assigned to me if you only want to see your own work — ideal for individual contributors

  • Use All issues in a project if you're a team lead who needs visibility across the whole project

  • Combine the GitLab integration with Routine's Labels to tag all GitLab tasks with a "Engineering" or project-specific label for easy filtering

  • Use Views to build a filtered board of just GitLab issues grouped by status

🗣️ Use cases

  • Individual contributors — see your assigned GitLab issues alongside personal tasks and calendar without switching apps

  • Engineering leads — monitor all issues in a project from Routine while managing your own schedule

  • Cross-functional teams — combine GitLab issues with Notion tasks, Gmail tasks, and Routine tasks in one unified view

  • Sprint management — sync sprint issues and plan time for them on the calendar directly from Routine

  • Deadline tracking — keep due dates in sync so nothing slips between GitLab and your personal planning system

The GitLab integration brings your engineering work into the same system as your meetings, notes, and personal tasks — so context switching becomes optional, not mandatory.
