Duplicate Tasks & Events lets you quickly create copies of existing items, saving time when working with similar tasks, meetings, or custom objects. Duplication preserves all details while letting you adjust what needs to change.
✍️ How Duplicate works
With Duplicate, you can:
Create an exact copy of any task with the same content
Duplicate events with all calendar details prefilled
Duplicate custom database objects within the same database
Adjust dates, participants, or other properties before saving
Preserve all original details (labels, priorities, descriptions, project links, etc.)
Duplicate from any menu, right-click, or keyboard shortcut
Paste a copied task block in notes to automatically duplicate the backing task
Deep-copies notes when duplicating — all blocks get fresh IDs, embedded tasks and objects are duplicated recursively
Inline references in duplicated notes point at the copy, not the original
Duplicating from a block in a document stays on the document — it doesn't open the copy
Duplicating a task from another document places the copy in that document, right below the original
Pasting a copied recurrent-task block now duplicates the recurrence behind it
Duplication works for personal tasks, team tasks, calendar events, and custom objects.
⁉️ Why duplicate
Creating similar items from scratch is repetitive and error-prone. Duplicate in Routine:
Eliminates manual retyping for recurring or similar work
Preserves all details automatically — labels, priorities, descriptions, and more
Lets you adjust only what's different (dates, participants, status) before saving
Reduces errors when creating similar items
Works consistently across tasks, events, and custom objects
Is accessible from every menu and shortcut so you're never stuck looking for it
This is especially valuable for team workflows where most details stay the same across similar items.
🎙️ How to duplicate
Duplicating tasks:
Open any task or right-click it in a list
Click the Duplicate action in the
...menu or actions barRoutine creates a copy with the same content
The duplicated task appears in your Inbox ready to plan
Adjust labels, priorities, dates, or assignee as needed
💡 If the task is bound to a database row, the duplicate is created in the same database and suffixed with (copy).
Duplicating events:
Open any event from your calendar or right-click it
Click the Duplicate action
Routine opens the calendar with all event details prefilled (title, duration, participants, etc.)
Adjust the date, time, or participants as needed
Save to create the new event
Events can be duplicated to the same date or rescheduled before saving.
Duplicating in notes:
Copy a task or object block inside a note (
CMD/CTRL+C)Paste it elsewhere in your notes (
CMD/CTRL+V)Routine automatically duplicates the backing task or object and assigns it a fresh ID
The original and the copy are now independent objects
Duplicating custom objects:
Open any custom database object or right-click it in a view
Click the Duplicate action in the
...menuRoutine creates a copy within the same database
Adjust properties as needed before saving
🗣️ Use cases
Duplicate is especially useful for:
Weekly recurring meetings — duplicate standing meetings instead of recreating them each week
Recurring task patterns — copy weekly checklists or repeating work items
Project templates — duplicate a completed project structure to start a similar one
Client or team meetings — create consistent meeting formats across multiple participants
Habit tracking — duplicate daily or weekly check-in tasks
Event series — create similar events (workshops, webinars, interviews) without retyping details
Team onboarding — duplicate meeting schedules or task lists for new team members
Database entries — duplicate custom objects to create similar records quickly
Duplication transforms repetitive work into a one-click action, freeing you to focus on what's actually different.
