Routine's Aggregate Views let you visualize calculated values across any database — counts, sums, averages, completion rates, and more — as a single number, a progress bar, or a gauge dial. These layouts complement the data-rich views like Table and Board by surfacing the bottom line at a glance.

All three layouts can be added as view blocks inside any note or page using the / command.

Number

The Number layout displays a single calculated value over all records matching your current filters. It's the most flexible of the three — supporting a wide range of calculations across different property types.

Supported calculations:

  • Any property — Count all, Count values, Count unique values, Count empty, Count not empty, Percent empty, Percent not empty

  • Number properties — Sum, Average, Median, Min, Max, Range

  • Date properties — Earliest date, Latest date, Date range

  • Checkbox properties — Checked count, Unchecked count, Percent checked, Percent unchecked

Best for: dashboards, KPI tracking, reporting, and any situation where a single meaningful number tells the story.

Gauge

The Gauge layout displays a percentage aggregate as a semicircular dial — like a speedometer. The dial fills from 0% to 100% based on the calculated value, giving an immediate visual sense of where you stand relative to a goal.

Best for: completion rates, goal progress, task done percentages, and any metric where proximity to 100% is meaningful.

Progress

The Progress layout displays a percentage aggregate as a horizontal progress bar. Cleaner and more compact than the Gauge, it's ideal for embedding inside a page alongside other content without taking up too much vertical space.

Best for: tracking task completion inline in a project page, showing content production progress, or any percentage metric displayed alongside related information.

🎙️ How to add an Aggregate View

From the slash command in notes:

  1. Open any note, page, journal entry, or object with a notes property

  2. Type / and search for "number", "gauge", or "progress"

  3. Select the layout you want

  4. Choose your data source (any database or default type)

  5. Select the property to calculate on

  6. Choose the calculation type

  7. The value renders immediately and updates in real time

From a new view block:

  1. Create a new page or open an existing one

  2. Add a view using the / command → select View

  3. Choose Number, Gauge, or Progress as the layout

  4. Configure the data source, property, and calculation

💡 Combining aggregate views with other views

Aggregate views are most powerful when placed alongside the data they summarize. For example:

  • A Table view showing all tasks in a project + a Gauge below showing overall completion percentage

  • A Board view grouped by status + a Number showing the count of In Progress items

  • A list of content pieces + a Progress bar showing how many are marked Published

Because all views read from the same database, they update together in real time — no manual refreshing needed.

  • Project dashboards — show task completion rate as a Gauge next to the project's task list

  • Team reporting — display total tasks completed this week as a Number

  • Content pipelines — show percent of articles marked "Published" as a Progress bar

  • Sales tracking — show total deal value (sum of a number property) as a Number

  • Habit tracking — show percent of habit entries completed this month as a Gauge

  • OKR pages — embed Progress bars for each key result alongside its linked tasks

  • Sprint reviews — show completed vs total tickets as a Number at the top of the sprint page
